Happy Holidays

I am visiting my honey's family in the Houston, TX area this weekend. His mom wanted to make a gingerbread house, and its something I wanted to make, so I said what the heck!!  We bought a couple of gingerbread house kits from the store and a ton of candy to decorate. (I really like working with sixlets which are kinda like no name brand M&M's)

I think they turned out great, especially for a first time go! What do you think?

This is the front view of S's mom's house and mine. She's not quite as crafty or patient as I am, but it still turned out pretty good. Well, minus the windows and door, she gave up at that point. She enjoyed eating the gumdrops more than decorating I think!

This is the back view of mine. I LOVE the spiral lollypop, what a great decorating tool!

Top view of mine. Wee, it was a lot of fun!!

Things that I learned: I will be making my own gingerbread and icing for the next time around. The store bought kit was ok, but the icing has still not dried to a solid yet and its been almost 24 hrs. I m worried about it falling apart. Next time, I will be using an icing bag and piping tips for neater decorating. And the white tray that the whole thing is sitting on is flimsy plastic. I am not sure that I will be able to move the house or take it home. Next time I will make the whole thing on hard cardboard or a small cake board. Lesson learned, but it was still a really fun time.
